Clinique & Estee Lauder Evening

At our April 2011 meeting (Wednesday 6th) we will be welcoming the Clinique and Estee Lauder ladies to Talwrn Lite WI to chat , advise and offer top tips on how to look after our skin through the changing seasons. It's an open house, so please invite your friends and relatives to come along at 7:30pm at Talwrn Village Hall, Talwrn, Llangefni, Anglesey. The cost for non members is £2 which can be paid on the evening. This amount covers the raffle and refreshments. We look forward to seeing you there.

Meeting - Wednesday 2nd Mach 2011

At our March meeting we had three ladies visit as Guest Speakers.

Edwina and Val provided a cookery demonstration. Talking about how to use Quark, a very low fat soft cheese which is an ideal carrier for other flavours. They created some stunning dips and an alternative lemon cheesecake. At the end of the demonstration, members were able to taste the creations. To round off the evening, Ann told several jokes.

I have detailed the recipes below for those of you who were not there or did not manage to pick up a recipe sheet:

Cheese Dips

1/3 carton of Quark

1 dessert spoon Natural Yogurt

1 dessert spoon Light Mayonaise

Mix all together with a fork and then divide into two bowls.

Into one of these portions ass 1oz grated Cheddar Cheese

Finely chopped Spring Onions

Into the other portion mash 1/2oz Stilton

Serve with celery & carrot sticks or Pringle biscuits.

Salmon Pate

1/3 carton of Quark

1/2 tin Salmon

1.4 teaspoon dried dill

Blend all ingredients together and place in a ramekin dish and chill.

Lemon Dessert

1/3 carton of Quark

1 small Digestive Biscuit

1 heaped teaspoon Lemon Curd

Lemon Zest

Place the whole biscuit at the bottom of the ramekin dish.

Mix together the other ingredients with a fork and place on top of biscuit. Chill.

Don't forget we're having our chat and craft session tonight, at the Village Hall at 7:30pm, which will include discussions & ideas on our Annual Show exhibit.

Meeting - Scrapbooking With Sam

At the 2nd February meeting, our Secretary, Sam Squires provided a talk on her hobby of scrapbooking and papercrafting. She provided a kit for each member to create a CD Gift holder.

The example shown above has a valentine theme, but the CD holder could be given for any occasion with the CD holding memorable photographs or songs.

REMINDER: Informal Get-together

Just a quick reminder that we're having an informal get together this evening to have a catch up chat and discuss our plans for the Federation Annual Show craft entry. Hope to see you at the Village Hall at 7:30pm this evening.

If you have any unfinished craft projects, then bring along and we'll help to get them done.

Cafe Direct Sack Challenge

In a recent issue of WI Life magazine, Cafe Direct set WI groups a challenge to create something from their used coffee sacks. Our member, Margaret Bradbury sent off for the pack and soon received a box full of goodies, including some sacks.

The photographs shown above are the three creations made from the sacks. The top two is a notice board, which is now in use in our Village Hall and was created by Delyth Jones.

The third photo is an owl doorstop, created by Samantha Squires.

The fourth photo is an advent calender, made by Sharon Crowden. We actually used this item as a fund raiser at the village Christmas Fair.

The photographs have been submitted to Cafe Direct and are on their Facebook page here, where you can vote for your favourite creation. The item with the most "likes" will win a prize for the WI the item is related to. So please get voting.
